May 2—The BRICS nations, including full members and partner countries, have pledged strong support for the swift reconstruction of Gaza’s civil infrastructure, ensuring a central role for Palestinians, as outlined at the Emergency Arab Summit on Palestine on March 4, 2025. The summit, hosted in Egypt and chaired by President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, saw the approval of Egypt’s three-phase reconstruction plan, designed to rebuild Gaza without displacing its residents.

This commitment was formalized in the Chair’s Statement issued by Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira, reflecting the consensus of the April 28-29 BRICS Foreign Ministers meeting. According to Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, the ministers extensively discussed global crises, with particular focus on the worsening situation in Palestine, broader tensions across the Middle East, and instability in parts of Africa.

While avoiding the term "genocide," the final BRICS statement expresses grave concern over the renewed Israeli bombings and obstruction of humanitarian aid following the collapse of the ceasefire. The ministers adamantly oppose any forced displacement of Palestinians under any pretext and reaffirm their commitment to the two-state solution.

Saudi Arabia also participated in the April 29 BRICS meeting, despite choosing not to formally join the group. Deputy Foreign Minister Waleed Elkhereiji, addressing the session, stated that Saudi Arabia values collaboration with BRICS while preferring to maintain its independent engagement with the bloc.

According to the Saudi Press Agency, Elkhereiji expressed appreciation for the BRICS invitation and reiterated Saudi Arabia’s desire to work within multilateral platforms to foster a prosperous future for the Global South. He also stressed the Kingdom’s support for BRICS efforts in resolving global crises and easing geopolitical tensions.
