83% of Gazans Whom Israel Has Killed Are Civilians
Aug. 28--Data from an internal Israeli intelligence database indicates that at least 83% of Palestinians killed in Israel’s onslaught on Gaza were civilians, an investigation by +972 Magazine, Local Call, and Britain’s The Guardian revealed Aug. 21.
Figures were obtained from a classified Israeli database, which records the deaths of militants from Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ).
The Israeli army confirmed the existence of the database, which is managed by the Military Intelligence Directorate (known by the Hebrew acronym “Aman”), +972 reported. Many intelligence sources familiar with the database said the army views it as the only authoritative tally of militant casualty figures. In the words of one of them: “There’s no other place to check.”
According to the data, which were obtained in May 2025, the Israeli army believed it had killed around 8,900 Hamas/islmic Jihad operatives since October 7, 2023—the deaths of 7,330 of whom were considered certain and 1,570 recorded as “probably dead.” Palestinian medical authorities reported at that time, that there were 53,000 Palestinian deaths, making 83% of the deaths civilian.
That would constitute one of the largest mass murders of civilians in any war in the last few centuries.
