An Olympic Truce?

July 21—After his weekly Sunday Angelus today to the crowd gathered in St. Peter’s Square in Vatican City, His Holiness Pope Francis today expressed his wish that the upcoming Paris Olympics serve as the occasion for truces in the world’s conflicts, including in Ukraine, Gaza, and the West Bank. He urged that the athletes from all over the world who will flock to the games, which begin July 26 and last for a fortnight, serve as “messengers of peace and authentic role models for young people.” Opening ceremonies on the River Seine will feature 10,500 athletes and over 100 heads of states and governments.

The Pope said he hoped that “as is the custom of this ancient tradition, may the Olympic Games be an occasion to call for a cease-fire in wars, demonstrating a sincere desire for peace.” Concerning the bloody conflicts in Ukraine, Gaza, Myanmar and other countries, he concluded, “Let us never forget, war is a defeat!”

Sources report that an Olympic Truce may indeed be on the agenda for a number of these conflicts, including in Ukraine and Gaza/West Bank.

They report that in the case of Ukraine, the idea has been discussed with both Kyiv and with Moscow, and was among the ideas presented in recent discussions in those capitals, as well as in Beijing, by Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, as an “icebreaker” to an actual ceasefire, while the push for negotiations for a more permanent settlement continues. The Russian and Ukrainian militaries who have been in secret negotiations for months to hammer out an outline for a peace settlement are said to support the idea of the truce during the Olympics, as does Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“NATO wants none of this,” said a source. “And their sock puppet dictator Volodymyr Zelenskyy will do what NATO says. But, NATO might be outflanked on this one. While they fantasize themselves as the real power in the West, the supposed sovereign governments, including the United States, are already on record as supporting the idea.” The source pointed out that at the June 13-15 meeting of the Group of 7 in Italy, language was inserted, by unanimous vote, into the final communiqué that also calls for a truce in all global conflicts during the Olympic Games.

This and other source say that America’s most able diplomat, CIA Director William Burns, who has been trying for weeks to push through a ceasefire/hostage exchange deal between Israel and Hamas that would lead to an end to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin “Bibi” Netanyahu’s genocidal rampage against Palestinians and a two-state solution, is moving to have his weak President, “Sleepy Joe” Biden, push the Olympic truce on Bibi during his visit to Washington where he is scheduled to address a joint session of Congress July 24. Netanyahu, who will arrive in Washington tomorrow, will meet with Biden July 23, the White House has announced.

Burns has already secured agreement for a truce from Hamas and Hezbollah, the source reported, “although all this is very tentative and provocative actions by Bibi could throw this off track. But Joe Biden is on his way out. He hates Netanyahu, and as a Catholic really loves this Pope, with whom he met while in Italy last month. He is now even a weaker President than before, but he might just for once, swing that hammer at Bibi on this. The word around here is that Sleepy Joe had refused to drop out of the race before now, because he did not want to give Bibi that satisfaction. He had tried to stop this butcher from coming, but lacked the clout to do that. Let’s see how this plays out.”

Burns, this and other sources say, believes that if the truce can be forced through, then the “whole enchilada can be leveraged,” meaning that it would spin into the first phases of the ceasefire/hostage deal. “Bibi is more popular in the Congress than he is in Israel, but the Zionist lobby and their allies control the narrative that the American people see. They don’t get to see Bibi’s fascist police thugs beating up the elderly and the families of the hostages when they demand the ceasefire/hostage deal and Netanyahu’s ouster. They don’t see the bodies of innocent women and children slaughtered on his order in Gaza, They don’t know that his own military command is demanding an end to the war, before it spins into a larger war against Hezbollah in the West Bank. They only really know the narrative about how Israel has to defend itself from murdering terrorists like Hamas. But they will not hear that Bibi actually created and funded Hamas, because, like him, they don't support a Palestinian state, although this may be changing.

“Netanyahu might not want to risk Americans seeing him as the bloodthirsty, messianic dictator he is, were he to refuse a peace overture from the Pope,” the source concluded. “Especially if it has bipartisan backing from Israel’s patron and weapons’ supplier, the United States.” GOP Presidential nominee and former President Donald Trump is also reported to support the idea of an Olympic Truce.”
