Egypt’s President Issues Urgent Appeal to Trump: on Behalf of Humanity, Stop This War!
March 31—Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi used the occasion of his address to the opening of the 2026 Egypt International Energy Conference and Exhibition in Cairo March 29, to issue a personal appeal to U.S. President Donald Trump to intervene to stop the ongoing war with Iran.
“I am telling President Trump,” President El-Sisi first reported, “that no one will be able to stop the war in our region, in the Gulf, except you. In the name of humanity, and in the name of everyone who loves peace—and you, Mr. President, are someone who loves peace— I am directing this message to you personally, on my behalf, on behalf of the entire region, and on behalf of the whole world. Given the severe consequences of the war continuing any longer, please help stop the war. You are capable of doing so.”
His appeal was frontpage news in the Egyptian press and covered throughout the Southwest Asian region. It was reported in the press of India, China and various African nations, among others. Maybe, if you dig hard enough, you might find a small note on it buried in some U.S. newspaper.
The brief clip of that appeal, extracted from his longer remarks, is available with English subtitles in the region’s press, such as this one by Al Jazeera. Will someone in the White House do humanity the favor of showing the less-than-a-minute clip to the President for his morning briefing instead of the two-plus-minute video of clips of bombs exploding on Iran that it is said he is fed every morning as “a briefing”?
President El-Sisi otherwise described how the world faces the largest energy crisis in modern history, worse than that produced by the COVID pandemic, the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine war, and the war in Gaza, Egypt’s semi-state daily Al Ahram reported. He warned of a “dual shock” of supply shortages and rising prices that could drive up fuel, fertilizer, and agricultural costs, particularly in developing economies, and the disruption or even suspension of energy production that could take years to reverse.
“The continuation of war will have dangerous repercussions on the global economy,” El-Sisi said; such conflicts ultimately result only in “loss and destruction,” with no winners.
Notable participants in Egypt’s sizeable energy conference included Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides, European Commission Director-General for Energy, Ditte Juul Jørgensen, Gulf Cooperation Council Secretary-General Jasem Albudaiwi, senior Egyptian officials and executives from major international energy companies, the Egyptian daily reported.
