Meta Bans RT from All Its Platforms
Sept. 19—Meta announced on Sept. 16 that RT would be banned from all of its platforms internationally, including Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. They announced this just days after the Sept. 13 State Department announcement of sanctions against “Kremlin-coordinated news organizations.,” including RT, that would be implemented against anyone who works with the banned outlets.
NBC News reported on Meta’s statement: “After careful consideration, we expanded our ongoing enforcement against Russian state media outlets: Rossiya Segodnya, RT and other related entities are now banned from our apps globally for foreign interference activity.”
YouTube moved Sept. 16 in lockstep with META in this assault on free speech and freedom of the press: “As part of our ongoing commitment to comply with applicable U.S. government sanctions, we terminated over 230 channels affiliated with AVO TV Novosti and Rossiya Segodnya, all of which were already blocked from viewers,” a YouTube spokesperson wrote in an email.
