The Lying New York Times Longs for Donald Trump’s First Term
Dec.9—Among the hysteria over the Trump Administration’s new National Security Strategy, the chutzpah award of the week goes to the New York Times. In an article entitled, “Superpower Competition: The Missing Chapter in Trump’s Security Strategy”, Washington correspondent David Sanger bemoans the lack of attention to the threat from Russia, which has, after all, been “engaged in a nearly four-year-long war in Ukraine and a shadow war against U.S. allies across Europe.”
“The last time President Trump issued a national security strategy, eight years ago, it heralded a return to superpower competition, describing China and Russia as ‘revisionist’ powers seeking to upend American dominance around the world,” Sanger wrote. He fails to mention that the new NSS calls for an end to U.S. efforts to seek global domination, which must fail, and create strategic instability. Instead, he expresses a longing fore the "realism" of the first Trump administration that at least saw Russi and China as adversaries that had to be deterred.
But during that first Administration, Sangers turns out to be among the pack of press rats doing NATO's bidding, promoting what Trump calls the "Russia, Russia, Russia" narrative that sought his impeachment. Sanger wrote a number of articles, including one from January 2020, in effect arguing that the impeachment of President Trump was justified by Trump’s softness on Russia.
The “liberal” New York Times ends up on the same side as the warmongering neo-cons every time. In 2020 Sanger praised “we lie, cheat, and steal” Secretary of State Mike Pompeo as an “experienced” foreign policy advisor, while asking whether Trump were a Putin puppet. Now he’s attempting to rewrite history (something the New York Times excels in) as if no one can recall how hostile the New York Times was to President Trump in the first term.
