Trump: Getting Putin and Zelenskyy Together Requires Time and Patience

Sept. 5—Known more for issuing deadlines, U.S. President Donald Trump described Sept. 3 , in an interview with CBS News, how it is that his method for negotiations, including over the Ukraine conflict, of necessity requires patience. He said that his approach is to bring together the antagonists with little or no preconditions, or as CBS News described it, “to not write off any possibility before” you can get them talking. He said, “That approach demands patience, even when a quick resolution is sought.” Asked whether he must sometimes “wait things out,” he replied, “Well, you have to do that.” He said his position was “both realistic and optimistic.”

Otherwise, President Trump reported that he has been closely monitoring the situation: “I’ve been watching it, I’ve been seeing it, and I’ve been talking about it with President Putin and President Zelenskyy. Something is going to happen, but they are not ready yet. But something is going to happen. We are going to get it done. I think we’re going to get it all straightened out.”

Sources close to the White House also report that NATO and its European assets are undermining his efforts by propping up their Ukrainian dictator Zelenskyy, feeding his delusions about winning the war and continuing the fight. These sources say that if it were not for these "NATO idiots," there would already be an outline of a peace deal based on the reality of the battlefield. "Trump tells Zelenskyy that he is helping him secure a better deal than Putin might want to give," said one source, "and then these Euro-idiots tell him that Trump is selling him out."

These sources also report that while nothing would be set in stone in the talks, there must be an agenda to serve as a framework that would give them a chance for success. And, in that regard, there is one thing that is totally off the table—NATO membership for Ukraine—yet Zelenskyy seems to believe that this is still doable, because NATO tells him not to get pushed around. It has been made clear to him that the US would veto Ukraine membership in NATO, so it will never happen."

The sources also look with dismay at some of the so-called security guarantees that NATO and Zelenskyy have come up with, including a non-starter idea to bring thousands of NATO troops into the Ukraine to "police" the deal. Trump, these sources say, understands that Russia has no further designs on Ukraine, or for that matter Europe. Yet, he finds these Euro fools preparing for a war with Russia, either in renewed battle in Ukraine or just with Russia invading western Europe and border states like Poland. "These are the scared fantasies of the Euro-chickens," said a source. "If they want to fight the Russians because they are stupid, then they will do so without U.S. support. Meanwhile, because Russia and Putin are sane, the U.S. and its vast nuclear military power protects Europe. If the Europeans were not obsessed with 'Russia Russia Russia' this war and all its killing would be over. If Trump were around when the crisis was brewing, there never would have been a war."

Separately, in discussions with reporters yesterday, Trump said that he had followed the Sept. 3 grand military parade in Beijing, featuring Putin and the leaders of China and North Korea: “I understand the reason they were doing it, and they were hoping I was watching, and I was watching. My relationship with all of them is very good. We’re going to find out how good it is over the next week or two.”
