Trump Lashes Out at Pope Leo and Posts Bizarre ‘Trump-as-Christ’ Image

April 14—It remains unclear what rant the current President of the United States, Donald Trump, will come up with tonight. Last evening, at 9:03 p.m., Trump lashed out at Pope Leo, apparently claiming that it is he, Donald Trump, who is infallible. Despite all the horrified reactions around the world, Trump doubled down today, saying that he has nothing to apologize for or retract. The full posting can be read to take in the stream of consciousness flavor, but the “meat” of his attack on the Pope is that he is weak, in favor of Iran having a nuclear bomb, and only in office because of Trump:

“Pope Leo is WEAK on Crime, and terrible for Foreign Policy…. I don’t want a Pope who thinks it’s OK for Iran to have a Nuclear Weapon…. And I don’t want a Pope who criticizes the President of the United States because I’m doing exactly what I was elected, IN A LANDSLIDE…. Leo should be thankful because, as everyone knows, he … wasn’t on any list to be Pope, and was only put there by the Church because he was an American, and they thought that would be the best way to deal with President Donald J. Trump. If I wasn’t in the White House, Leo wouldn’t be in the Vatican…. Leo should get his act together as Pope….”

Taking his arrogance to an even more absurd level, Trump then posted an AI image of himself as Christ, with an American flag, bald eagles, and fighter jets in the background—a move that outraged many of his supporters. The backlash against this was so great, however, that Trump deleted the image on April 13. When asked about it by reporters outside the White House, he proceeded to explain, while receiving a delivery from McDonald’s outside the Oval Office: “I did post it, and I thought it was me as a doctor. And it had to do with Red Cross. There’s a Red Cross worker there, which we support. And only the fake news could come up with that one. So, I—I just heard about it. And I said, ‘How did they come up with that?’ It’s supposed to be me as a doctor, making people better, and I do make people better.”
