Trump Meeting with Pope Leo Possible: Sources
April 16—In an effort to "calm the waters" and to move forward in a more productive way to bring about peace in the world's conflict zones, including in Iran and the Middle East, quiet discussions are underway to set up a meeting between Pope Leo XIV and U.S. President Donald Trump.
Sources report that Leo rejects the representation of himself in British and Zionist media as the "anti-Trump."
Pope Leo’s Challenge to Prevailing 'Just' War Doctrine
Nonetheless, Leo, the first American pope, has taken it on to challenge assumptions shared by Trump and the clutter of right-wing, British-Zionists that surround him that "might makes right" and to denounce the idea that war and killing can be used to solve any problems. A source who knew Leo in Chicago said that the Pope is strongly opposed to the idea that wars are fought "with God on our side," said the source. "He is not just preaching, but teaching people, that God is on the side of the peacemakers, never the warmakers, rejecting the crusader mentality, in favor of Jesus teachings in the Sermon on the Mount. This is not about the American President alone, but against a whole outlook on the world, which is found in the words and actions of the Israelis and Netanyahu, but also in the actions and words of the Iranians and Hamas."
Trump’s Reaction and the Role of Dialogue
Trump has responded angrily to Pope Leo's teaching, said another source, "acting as if Leo is attacking only him and ignores the 'evil' in Iran. But read carefully what Leo is saying: war and killing are never a solution to any problem and must never be offered as such. Diplomacy and dialogue are superior human method to deal with disagreements. Peace cannot be obtained in human relations by killing your enemy. That is the peace of the graveyard. The Pope is appealing to Trump's humanity to find peace through dialogue. And Leo can lend an important hand in this and is more than willing to do so."
Sources close to the White House say that President Trump would meet with Leo soon, if it can be arranged. He thinks that he will be able to justify his actions, including against Iran, one source stated. "But don't underestimate the power of this man, Leo. He will find a way to reach Trump and put him back on the track of being a peacemaker. The world would be for the better for such a meeting."
Timing, Opposition, and a Broader Vision
One possibility is for the Pope to come to the U.S. for the 250th birthday celebrations, and the meeting to take place then. But Leo would like it sooner, so that it might perhaps help speed an end to the Iran conflict.
There are people in Trump's inner circle who would prefer that such a meeting never take place, and that the two world leaders remain at odds. In the end, the decision rests with Trump.
Some people who have spoken with Leo say that the Pontiff would also like to organize a meeting of the world's great religions, which would be devoted to finding the common humanity in all of them, in a "dialogue of civilizations," which would point the way towards development of "one world, one humanity" for the betterment of all peoples. Leo thinks that is what is needed now, several sources reported, to place mankind on the right pathway for its future destiny.
