Will Xi Offer Trump a 'Grand Design' for Peace and Development?

May 14—As President Donald Trump prepares to sit down with China's President Xi Jinping for bilateral talks on trade and other matters, sources with contacts in the Chinese leadership report that Xi is prepared to offer the American President a pathway towards a new international security and development architecture that moves away from superpower confrontation and potential war.

China’s View of the Iran Conflict and Global Order

These sources say that the Chinese believe that the Iran war, in which a messianic Zionist clique inside the Trump Administration supported the efforts of the strategically insane Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin "Bibi" Netanyahu, to draw Trump into an unwinnable war, marks the end of the post-World War II geopolitical order and shows the utter failure of geopolitics as policy for a nuclear superpower. "Trump keeps talking about the vast power of the U.S. military," said a source. "But here we had that power, joined by a capable regional power, Israel, against a clearly inferior military power, Iran, which lacks nuclear weapons and did not need such weapons to stymie the great power of the United States. That is because Iran was able to use its asymmetric capabilities, including its ability to control the flow of global energy supplies through the Strait of Hormuz, to create a global economic crisis that Trump found, and is finding, is insoluble by military means.

"So, now Trump finds the world demanding that he end his military adventure to restore some stability to global energy flows and the global economic supply chain," said the source. "The Chinese were hit hard by the disruption of the energy supplies from the Gulf. But what they see they need to do is not just deal with energy supply issues. They need help create a different security architecture that can solve issues without resorting to conflict. That method allows for superpower cooperation, that seeks to prevent wars and 'military adventures' in favor of increased prospects for economic growth and prosperity."

Concept of ‘One Humanity’ and Economic Cooperation

These sources say that China is committed to a policy of peaceful, cooperative development in which all problems can be resolved. This is not, as some neo-cons have written, a utopian view of a "one world order," but something more akin to what has been advocated by Schiller Institute chairwoman Helga Zepp-LaRouche, a concept of "one humanity," which respects the sovereignty of all nations while they work for the betterment of all of humanity.

In that light, China intends to offer the U.S. a workable deal to provide access to Chinese rare earths and metals, while at the same time working out arrangements for China to purchase advanced AI chips from U.S. producers such as NVIDIA.

China also wants to create a mechanism, such as a special trade and development bank, which will facilitate U.S. investment and sales in China, and vice versa in the United States, moving away from the often geopolitically abused tariff system. "The idea is to provide incentive for cooperative investment," said the source, "while allaying the fears of a Chinese or American economic invasion that would subvert both economies. The prospects for such development, beneficial to both nations, and then to the world as a whole, are almost unlimited."

Debt Markets and Superpower Relations

But sources say Xi may intend to go even farther. The Chinese leader may offer President Trump help in stabilizing the U.S. debt markets, with China once again purchasing U.S. securities. Such purchases have stopped, and the Chinese have been reducing their holdings of U.S. debt as talk of trade war has ramped up in recent years. While stupid economic geopoliticians spoke of China looting the U.S. with their trade surpluses, what had been happening for years was that the Chinese had plowed their surpluses back into the American economy by purchasing a trillion dollars' worth of Treasury debt, funding the massive U.S. budget deficits. "Xi can offer this as help to his friend Trump," said one source. "It is an offer Trump cannot afford to refuse."

While Trump recognizes that China and the U.S. may at times have divergent political and other interests, he has never believed either China or Russia to be "enemies," with whom we will one day have to fight wars. Such wars, in Trump's mind, are impossible, because they would be nuclear. He would rather see the three nuclear superpowers working together in a kind of special condominium, with special responsibility to secure global peace. Trump is said to be intrigued that Franklin D. Roosevelt had this idea, adding Great Britain to the mix, creating the "Four Policemen" with the responsibility for enforcing the post-World War II peace; this was sabotaged by the British and their assets in the U.S., and with FDR's death, it was thrown into the dustbin of history.

Taiwan and the Future of U.S.-China Relations

Xi also wants to get clarification on policy towards its special province, Taiwan. He would like to see a halt to arms sales, and a clear restatement of the U.S. commitment to the "one China" policy. There may be some language that can be worked out, said a source, that does not stir up too much from the lunatic neo-cons who want the U.S. to go to war over Taiwan's "independence."

"Let's see what happens in the talks," said a source. "There's much at stake, and a lot of competing factors at work. My sense is that Trump talking to Xi cannot be a bad thing, especially right now."
