Xi Offers Help to Trump on Ukraine, Venezuela

Nov. 26—Sources close to the White House report that Chinese President Xi Jinping, in the more than one-hour call Nov. 24 he initiated with President Donald Trump, offered to help "my friend" in securing and end to NATO's bloody war against Russia in Ukraine and to avoid a dangerous and unnecessary conflict with Venezuela.

These sources say that Xi, who had initiated the call to clarify China's concerns over provocative interventions by some U.S officials and legislators, as well as allies, including Japan, to intervene in the internal relations between China and its independently rules province Taiwan, praised Trump for his efforts to broker a peace deal in Ukraine. He told the President that China would be prepared to engage in any way the Trump see fit that could assist these efforts. These sources say that Trump is considering having China join the United States in offering security guarantees to Ukraine and Russia to prevent any new outbreak of hostilities between the two parties,

On Venezuela, Xi reportedly encouraged Trump to seek a diplomatic solution to the crisis and avoid any kind of "counterproductive" military action against the sovereign nation of Venezuela. Xi, sources indicate, said he was willing to mediate between Trump and Venezuelan President Maduro. Trump importantly told Xi that he is inclined to talk to Maduro rather than pursue military action and thanked Xi for his offer of assistance. Trump is said to have stressed that he, like the Chinese President, does not believe in "military solutions" to crisis. Bullets are never an answer, he is said to have remarked to Xi.

The Chinese President praised Trump for his efforts in securing a ceasefire in the Israeli war against Palestinians in Gaza. He expressed his hope that the Trump Peace plan was pursued to its ultimate end, security for the Palestinians a sovereign state, which their people demand and which is actually in Israel's best interests. Trump said that he may need some help on the next phases of the Peace Plan.

The sources said that discussion with the Chinese will be ongoing on these matters, as well as the other issues discussed in the call.

The Foreign Ministry of China issued a statement on the call, which was also issued by the Embassy of China in Washington, D.C.

After opening with reference to the “successful meeting in Busan last month,” the Foreign Ministry statement reports on Xi’s remarks to Trump on Taiwan, presenting an important historical context. The Ministry text: “President Xi outlined China’s principled position on the Taiwan question. He underscored that Taiwan’s return to China is an integral part of the post-war international order. China and the U.S. fought shoulder to shoulder against fascism and militarism. Given what is going on, it is even more important for us to jointly safeguard the victory of WWII.”

President Trump posted on his Truth Social account after the call: “Our relationship with China is extremely strong! This call was a follow up to our highly successful meeting in South Korea, three weeks ago. Since then, there has been significant progress on both sides in keeping our agreements current and accurate. Now we can set our sights on the big picture. To that end, President Xi invited me to visit Beijing in April, which I accepted, and I reciprocated where he will be my guest for a State Visit in the U.S. later in the year. We agreed that it is important that we communicate often, which I look forward to doing.”

This evaluation came after Trump’s brief identification of topics discussed, including Taiwan, Ukraine, soybean sales to benefit U.S. farmers.

The Chinese Ministry statement reported, “President Trump noted that President Xi is a great leader. I very much enjoyed our meeting in Busan (Korea) and fully share your comments about the China-U.S. relationship. The two sides are implementing all elements of what we agreed to in Busan. China was a big part of the victory of WWII. The U.S. understands how important the Taiwan question is to China.”
