IDF Officers Fear To Resign, Being Replaced by Netanyahu Yes-Men

April 11—An Israeli military source told EIR yesterday that there are many officers who wish to resign, because they feel that they have to take responsibility for the failures that brought on the Oct. 7 attacks. But they fear that if they resign, they would be replaced by officers who would be yes-men for the government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. It shows how far the military politicization has gone.

The source, a retired general who had played an official role in implementing the Oslo Accords, said the withdrawal of most of the troops from Gaza represents a change in tactics where the military could carry out more targeted attacks where Hamas is still active. As for Rafah, he said the decision has not been made. He was very concerned that there is no policy for the day after that would require negotiations and a final settlement, and that it is impossible under the current government. Legally the only way out is for the government to fall by the withdrawal of a coalition party with sufficient mandates and a no-confidence vote. He does not see it in sight yet and said more and larger demonstrations would be needed to create pressure. When asked what if the U.S. cut weapons sales, he said that would indeed be “extreme.”

Other sources have reported that there is a shift away in the top levels of the Israel Defense Force from support for the bloodthirsty policies of Netanyahu.
