Zelenskyy's Demented Fantasies: The Russians Shoot at Their Own Nuclear Plant
Oct. 6—In Zelenskyy Land, another day, another stampede for full time confrontation with Russia. We are in receipt of an address NATO's Ukrainian dictator gave to his nation last week, strangely and provocatively titled: “It Is Now the Seventh Day—Something That Has Never Happened Before—Of an Emergency Situation at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant—Address by the President.” According to this crackpot the Russians are planning to melt down their own nuclear facility. Don’t ask why, but the Russians are terrorists who threaten “absolutely everyone”—apparently including themselves.
Zelenskyy’s words, as posted on his website: “It is now the seventh day—by the way, it is something that has never happened before—of an emergency situation at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. The situation is critical. Because of Russian shelling, the plant has been cut off from power, disconnected from the electrical grid, and is being supplied with electricity by diesel generators… It is Russian shelling that prevents the repair of the power lines to the plant and the restoration of basic safety. And this is a threat to absolutely everyone. No terrorist in the world has ever dared to do to a nuclear plant what Russia is doing right now. And it is right that the world does not stay silent… I instructed the Government—the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine, together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs—to bring the world’s full attention to this situation.”
In reality, the Russian managers have shut down the reactors a couple of years ago. It was not safe to operate the plant, as Kyiv kept attacking the plant. However, both the 750 kV high-voltage main line and the 330kV back-up power line run through Ukraine controlled territory, which keep normal operations running at the facility, have been cut off. The plant’s personnel have the parts for a simple repair for the main line, but the shelling at and near the facility prevents the repair. It sounds silly to state such an obvious matter, but the Russians are not shelling their own location. A simple repair can put Zelenskyy’s nightmare to rest.
Further, while 18 diesel generators initially kicked into gear, the ZNPP staff reduced them to seven, as more were not needed. They informed the IAEA that their diesel reserves run for 20 days and that they regularly receive diesel fuel supplies. One of the ZNPP team told Business FM: “There is enough fuel for the station to operate safely… Everyone is doing their job. There is no evacuation. Everything is quite calm. Fuel is being supplied continuously, especially since there are storage reserves on site.”
The Guardian amplified Zelenskyy’s warning with the inclusion of an hysterical warning about a possible core meltdown. To this, ZNPP’s Director of Communications Yevgeniya Yashina explained to TASS that all the plant’s reactors are in cold shutdown. “This means that the nuclear fuel inside them is not hot, but has cooled to a safe temperature, like very hot tap water. It simply cannot overheat quickly.” TASS concluded by quoting her: “We have two key safety factors: the absence of a strong heat source and the proper functioning of backup power systems, which completely eliminates the possibility of a Fukushima-style accident.”
