Trump Comments Counter Stupid ICE Raid on Korean Plant in Georgia
Sept. 19—U.S. President Donald Trump seems to be trying to strike a conciliatory tone with international investors in the U.S. who have been scared off by the stupid and crass Sept. 6 Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raid on a Korean factory under construction in Georgia. Sources report that the raid was conducted without the knowledge or approval of the White House, which therefore was denied a chance to ask for peaceful compliance without the optics of a "raid." The people taken into custody were highly skilled Korean engineers and trained workers, whose presence in the U.S. was known to the Commerce Department.
“When Foreign Companies who are building extremely complex products, machines, and various other ‘things,’ come into the United States with massive Investments, I want them to bring their people of expertise for a period of time to teach and train our people how to make these very unique and complex products,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
“I don’t want to frighten off or disincentivize Investment into America by outside Countries or Companies. We welcome them, we welcome their employees, and we are willing to proudly say we will learn from them,” he added.
Trump’s comments come a week after the Sept. 6 ICE raid on a plant under construction by Korean manufacturing companies Hyundai and LG, which resulted in the arrest of 475 people, some 300 of whom were South Korean citizens. The incident shocked South Korea, which had just announced plans to invest $350 billion in the United States. South Korean leaders denounced the raid and warned that it could jeopardize the realization of those investment plans.
