Cristiano Ronaldo's $1 Billion Lawsuit Over Binance NFT Promotion – Unraveling the Legal Battle and its Implications on the Crypto World

⚠️ Must Read: Cristiano Ronaldo's $1 Billion Lawsuit Over Binance NFT Promotion – Unraveling the Legal Battle and its Implications on the Crypto World 🌐💼

Cristiano Ronaldo, the renowned Portuguese soccer star, has been embroiled in a significant legal challenge. He faces a class-action lawsuit seeking damages of at least $1 billion for his role in promoting Binance's non-fungible tokens (NFTs). The lawsuit, filed in the Southern District of Florida, alleges that Ronaldo's promotion was "deceptive and unlawful," misleading investors into unsafe and costly investments. The suit highlights the involvement of high-profile figures like Ronaldo in the proliferation of what it claims are unregistered securities offered by Binance.

In November 2022, Ronaldo introduced the "CR7" NFT collection in partnership with Binance, featuring seven animated statues capturing iconic moments from his career. The launch, timed before the 2022 World Cup, saw prices ranging from about $77 to $10,000. The lawsuit claims this campaign was incredibly successful, triggering a 500% surge in online searches for "Binance" and selling out premium NFTs within the first week.

Ronaldo has continued to promote Binance on his official website and social media platforms, including a recent post on "X" (formerly known as Twitter), hinting at ongoing collaboration with the crypto exchange. This lawsuit against Ronaldo comes amid broader scrutiny and scandals in the crypto industry, where many NFTs have seen a collapse in value.

Compounding the situation, Binance itself faced legal troubles. Over the summer, the exchange was accused of operating as an unregistered securities exchange, violating U.S. securities laws. Binance agreed to a settlement of around $4 billion, with its founder Changpeng Zhao stepping down as CEO and pleading guilty to a felony related to failures in preventing money laundering on the platform.
