NIGER. Burkina Faso reacted to ECOWAS embargo of Niger by promoting the supply of cereal products to Niger

After the ECOWAS embargo of all trade with Niger, Burkina Faso announced Aug. 1 an operation to issue Special Export Authorizations for cereals to Niger. Burkina Faso had prohibited all cereal exports (millet, sorghum, maize and cowpea) to all destinations, as from November 15, 2022, possibly because of scarcity.

The Aug. 1 official announcement reads:

”In solidarity with the people of Niger, I am pleased to inform you that, exceptionally, an operation to issue Special Export Authorizations (ASE) for the aforementioned cereals will be carried out for exports exclusively to Niger,” indicates the Permanent Secretary of the Single Window for Trade and Investment, Ms. Haoua Sorgho, who invites ”the economic operators of Burkina Faso interested in submitting their requests to the competent services of the Ministry in charge of trade.”
